Located in Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory, the SDHC was formed in the late 1970's to promote and showcase purebred pedigree dogs. After operating purely just  as a Social Club for 12 months, SDHC conducted its first event in September 1979. The judges at that first show were Gordon and Maria Archer.

It was largely through Mr. Archer's influence that the Club got on its feet in the first place as he had judged in Darwin a few years earlier and spoke with a band of enthusiasts that were interested in setting up a Dog Show training club.

It was a thrill and an honour to welcome Gordon and Maria back in 1999 to join in the Clubs 20 year Anniversary celebrations. With great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Gordon Archer in January 2004. The dog world in Darwin is much better off for having known this lovely and knowledgeable man.
